Dell (DELL) has won the FTC's blessing to acquire systems management software vendor Quest Software (QSFT). The news isn't surprising, given Dell's share of the systems management market is small relative to that of rivals IBM and H-P. Quest is instrumental both to Dell's ambitions for turning its software ops into a $5B/year business, and offering integrated hardware/software solutions for virtualization deployments.

Still cracks me up that DELL keeps pushing into software as AAPL became the biggest company buy selling hardware. Why do they assume software is the answer? It still comes down to whom as the best offering and DELL isn't innovative.
