Microsoft (MSFT) might grant just 4 PC OEMs the right to launch Windows RT tablets this fall before allowing more entrants in January, claims Taiwan's Economic Times.  Lenovo and Asus will partner with Nvidia (NVDA) to ship tablets, Toshiba with Texas Instruments (TXN), and Samsung with Qualcomm (QCOM). H-P was also going to ship a Qualcomm system, but it had a change of heart. Dell (DELL) reportedly could be working with Qualcomm to fill the gap, but the company has no comment.

Is Ballmer acting like the emperor?

The last time he did that Apple came from behind and not only bit off Msft's tail but it's entire back side.

Because of such asinine decisions, Msft is in little position to pick and choose, such an action would revert me back to even more Apple products.

I use the fruit company's products with pride while the s/w company with frustration.

I am a most reluctant fandude, created by the idiocy of the alternatives.

This strategy is the same as WindowsPhone, so uninteresting mostly.

What is curious however, is that NOK is not on the list, and further, the fact that HP pulled out of WindowsRT leaving one slot potentially open.

Of course, it's a QCOM slot and NOK doesn't get along with QCOM if I remember correctly. I still think NOK may slip in there, especially considering Nokia has made windows based laptops in the past.
