Suncor Energy (SU) posted a drop in Q2 net income but operating earnings rose due to higher production volumes in its upstream segment and increased refinery margins and throughputs in the downstream segment. SU earned C$0.21/share vs. C$0.36 a year ago; operating earnings were C$0.81/share vs. C$0.62 a year ago, exceeding analyst consensus C$0.72.
