Today's earnings release was a first for Jamie Sokalsky as Barrick Gold (ABX -5.4%) CEO, so he's in the difficult position of defending the company he was hired to fix. On cost overruns at the Pascua-Lama mine: Any mistakes were "in the structure as to how we set up the building of Pascua-Lama. But I don’t see that we made any fundamental mistakes in making investment decisions."

Despite minor setbacks, anyone who can't see the big picture and the outstanding opportunity with Gold and Barrick will be the loser. There will be a spike at some point in the next 12 months, watch this space !!!

This kind of bumps make people loose the view of the whole picture.
I thing this is a rare opportunity to invest for the months to come.

I am thinking it is a long term slug out for appreciation in gold stocks. With world wide beyond huge government debt, Indian and Chinese gold hoarding keeping demand in moderate growth if not big growth. Market manipulators/traders certainly know this and are currently wringing gold stocks for anything they can get out of them in short selling from last years gold stock prices. The gold stock market appears ripe for an SEC, CFTC, or FBI sting. Time will very likely tell. The recent analysts talk of the short selling ban in Spain and Italy say actual market prices can not be realized with a short selling ban because some traders leave the market and others refuse to participate leaving pricing to too few buyers. As an investor, I say so what. Let the underlying financial instrument intrinsic value set the price, not traders. This kind of short trading ban will or should discourage these pie in the sky financial instrument paper issuers from creating more chaos. Send traders packing to go find a real living. Government securities people will catch on to this. Sooner rather than later with any Grace.
