Two startling figures within Strategy Analytics' Q2 U.S. smartphone data: Android's (GOOG) share fell 430 bps Y/Y to 56.3%, and total sales fell 5.4% Y/Y. The iPhone's (AAPL) share surged 1000 bps to 33.2%. Apple's incredible customer loyalty helped it take share in a relatively saturated U.S. market, but as IDC's Q2 data shows, things were a little different internationally, where there are more first-time buyers and users are often more price-sensitive.

Android users, deathly afraid that Apple will sue them too, are flocking to the legal giant's iOS platform in droves to avoid lengthy legal battles that they can't afford.

    :)

Android users? Are you talking retail users?

If so that is the stupidest comment yet. They have no liability and likely don't know much about it. They will buy whatever the local sales guy is pushing.

Samsung Galaxy 3 makes the Iphone look old-fashioned. Forward growth rates are going to need more than loyalty in the fickle consumer market.

Heck you can watch flash and read PDF's with it as well.

Is there anything more annoying than Itunes?

Adobe isn't supporting flash for Android 4.1 and onward. And if it's that big of a deal to you, go download a flash browser for a couple of bucks.

IMHO, the world will witness an amazing thing with the iPhone 5 roll out. Growth slowed because now everyone, android users as well as iOS users, are waiting on the 5. Early September, we'll get our answer! :-)

I'm a little worried that they'll screw themselves by leaving out some key feature or other, like LTE.

I certainly hope they're not that stupid, but this is the company that released a phone with no 3G, no MMS, and no copy/paste in 2007, so I wouldn't put anything past them. :)

The phone rollouts are getting boring. Nobody ever did it as good as Steve Jobs and there is not that much new going on. It is turning into a nerd fest which is not relevant for the vast majority of consumers.

Lots of coffee/Mt. Dew types getting all excited wearing their black tshirts and talking about NFC or XXX but it has to be practical to really make a mass of people move. Nothing was more practical then music on the phone. Or email. Or text. Or some apps that can help manage something.

    What's new that is practical?

I would not use Android either because it's too insecure and my smartphone has too much sensitive information.

I hate phones. Especially smart phones. The government can locate your coordinates then send a drone with a guided missile aimed directly to your phone and kaboom.
