Ahead of this afternoon's FQ1 report, Electronic Arts (EA -1.2%) announces Star Wars: The Old Republic will become a free-to-play title this fall, at least for the first 50 levels. Also, subscriptions to the multiplayer online game, which EA invested heavily in, are now on sale. EA reported a major drop in Star Wars subs last quarter, and the timing of this announcement suggests another one could be in store. Producer Rich Vogel recently left the company. (new CFO)
