The DOT plans to hear from both airline companies and consumer advocates over how the industry could best inform travelers about options they have when buying tickets. Carriers are desperate to keep specific details on deals and availability exclusively on their own websites, while advocacy groups maintain consumers are being denied the right to make apples-to-apples comparisons. If the DOT rules favorably this fall, travel companies such as Expedia (EXPE -0.2%), Orbitz (OWW -1.1%), Tripadvisor (TRIP -1.0%), and Priceline.com (PCLN +0.3%) could get a boost.
