Chipotle (CMG) vs. Taco Bell (YUM): The effect of the new Cantina Bell menu on Chipotle's runaway growth may be overdramatized, according to Minyanville. The beef behind the argument is that Chipotle still claims superior food offerings and customers will "buy the experience" to keep the chain entrenched as a more likely destination for lunchtime engagements.

Probably true, but it may not just be cantina bell, it may the desire to trade down from $7 burritos.

This is one of those puzzlers: Why do people flock to the places that are jammed with no place to park and avoid those places where they can have a comfortable meal? "Buy the experience" at Chipotle consists of standing in line, sometime a line leading outdoors, in order to pay a premium price for a large burrito and some chips. It's like the experience of standing in line for two hours to get onto the Harry Potter ride for 3 minutes.

    Go figure.

I love the cheap tacos at taco bell, and also love the great food at chipotle. own both stocks, so no bias there. Tried the new Taco bell cantina, it was awful. I wanted it to be decent. They even ruined the previously decent chicken flavors trying to get something fancier. One taste is all it took. For quality, I will go to CMG, for a bag of cheap taco's Taco bell is still OK. Not even a distant close as far as taste and quality. 2 different food experiences, it is only the press that makes them out to be competitors.
