It's not just TSMC's (TSM) 28nm manufacturing capacity that's in short supply now: Digitimes reports capacity for prior-gen 40nm parts has also become tight, thanks to orders from Taiwan's MediaTek for chips used in Chinese smartphones. The report both drives home the impact Chinese smartphone sales are having on mobile chip demand, and suggests MediaTek is taking share from rival Spreadtrum (SPRD -11.7%), which just reported disappointing 3G chip sales.

Dont quite follow the logic here about the Spreadtrum part. Spreadtrum is also in a shortage of supplies, does that mean they are taking market share from MTK?
