Acknowledging online sales haven't exceeded expectations, Google (GOOG) is shuttering the Web store for the Nexus One, converting it into a showcase for a variety of Android phones. The company says its phone will still be available through retail channels. "It’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone," writes Engineering VP Andy Rubin.

    No surprise here. Though it is refreshing to see a company willing to try something new, and if it fails just admit it and move on to the next thing.
