Behind the rush is an emerging trend of women to accessorize their outfits around their shoes, instead of vice-versa. By trimming a couple of inches off of high heels, designers have also been to appeal to a broader segment of customers. Looking to pump profits: M, SKS, JWN, as well as private players Barney's and Neiman Marcus.
