BMW (BAMXY.PK) may have inflated its July sales figures to nip rival Mercedes-Benz's (DDAIF.PK) sales total for the month and claim the distinction of being the best-selling luxury brand in the U.S. According to the WSJ, dealers were offered discounts of as much as $7K per vehicle on July 31 to push the automaker's sales higher. Though the goal was achieved, BMW's profit margins will take the hit for the one-day clearance sale.
