Apple (AAPL) news roundup: 1) A 14A filing from buyout target and new R&D partner AuthenTec (AUTH) indicates Apple has been discussing developing "new technology" with AuthenTec since late 2011. All signs point to the technology being 2D fingerprint sensors. 2) An iPad Mini part has finally leaked (previous), suggesting production has or is about to commence. 3) Apple retail chief John Browett claims recent rumors of layoffs are false, and says scheduling issues are to blame. Retailing is seasonal and AAPL stores would be foolish to keep the same number of selling associates on the floor when business is in the seasonal doldrums. Hours should be reduced when it is slow, but it also would be a good time to train on their new up coming "Mini-iPad", iOS6, and the "iPhone5", driving customer service, improving selling skills and store systems.

That seems a bit on the vague side to predict it will impact iphone sales in China.

Further, much has been written about how Apple products are status symbols in china. Buying a half price knockoff ... doesn't say much about status other than ... "Hey, look how cheap I am."

Dave, you forgot to preface your "news" with . . . .

    "this just in"

I laughed when I heard Bloomberg talk about the possibility of a layoff in Apple Stores - I'd have thought BB would have thought this one out as I did.

    Let's see . . .

    less'n 200 stores
let's say they lay off 20 people per store
and they make what ? $50K all in, beni's, etc

    that's $200M

How much impact is that ?

    . . . on a half a trillion dollar company

We've not enough important things to talk about, I imagine
