Apple (AAPL +1.6%) is making new highs yet again (previous) after Goldman reiterates a Conviction Buy. Commenting on recent WSJ reports (I, II) about an Apple set-top box, the firm thinks it's most likely evidence Apple plans to offer both a set-top box and a TV set. Some reasons for Apple to produce a set-top box, in spite of the cable industry's wariness: they're cheaper than TVs, have shorter upgrade cycles, and (like the iPhone) are typically subsidized.

Here is the facts. This should have been on thier conviction buy list the last 18 months. It should have little or nothing to do with the cheery on top called an ITV. I am not holding this stock through a 60% gain YTD gain because I think they are going to introduce a new blockbuster TV.
This is not brain surgery and I don't need some wall street firm to tell me Apple is a buy. A simple stock screener and calculator using PE and PEG is all you need.

I'm not psychic, I'll wait until I actually see an iTV, know the price and capabilities.

There are people in the world the buy Rolex watches, others buy Rolex knockoffs [or other brands] and there are people that don't wear watches at all. I'll make a guess that shops that sell Rolex watches actually make money on them.

The CURRENT Apple TV - rocks. Nobody knows about it. Its a dark horse, with no cheerleader. Allows your iThings to share music, video, and photo's - from the iCloud, seamlessly - in classic Apple efficient fasion. Of course, its only 99 bucks, and so its a giveaway. As to the equity position, Apple's domminance in their sectors - their cash position, their PEG rate, and their PE make them a solid piece of Americana to own long term. The firm is probably entering a new phase of its growth - sans Steve Jobs - but it still has metrics, products and customer good will/loyalty that its competitors admire. Blue Chip.

The Apple TV has quietly doubled in sales in 2012, and is on a long upward climb since its introduction, Samdung any day now will announce their version designed before Apple came out with theirs.
