Two consumers yesterday sued around 15 hotel companies and travel Web sites, including Marriott (MAR), Starwood (HOT) Expedia (EXPE) and Orbtiz (OWW), for conspiring to fix the cost of hotel rooms and to stop doing business with online retailers that sold rooms below specific rates. The plaintiffs are seeking class-action status for their suit.

In the UK in July regulators announced provisional findings of a breach of UK competition laws. This followed an investigation into price-fixing for hotel rooms involving the online travel companies. But who started it - the hotels or the on-line companies. This may well be a case of ' who blames who first '. One thing for certain - consumer is never going to win.
