Grass-roots opposition to Wal-Mart (WMT) stores are often secretly funded by giant supermarket companies including Supervalu (SVU), Safeway (SWY) and Ahold (AHONY.PK), according to a WSJ report. The companies hire a consultant specializing in using political campaign tactics to build support against Wal-Mart developments.

    This confirm's Adam Smith's not so oft quoted "when competitors meet it is to collude." Who was Adam Smith anyway, he seems to be quoted everywhere...was he like the prophet of capitalsim or what...I heard he had invisible hands...

    I'm shocked I tell you, SHOCKED that there is nefarious activity going on as regards Wal-Mart. Please don't tell me that UNIONS might be behind all this...move along, move along. Nothing to see here. Move along...

    It is a tell tale sign of the times.... when you can't compete fairly you try to hurt your competitor, in other words when you can't compete you cheat. sigh.

     

    I can take bankers making money hedging against the market much easier than this kind of crap.... yet we are regulating the bankers.
