Google (GOOG) -0.8% AH in response to Apple's (AAPL) huge patent win over Samsung (SSNLF.PK). The software patents Google acquired via Motorola Mobility, some of which recently became the subject of an ITC suit, are now more important than ever in defending Android. Microsoft (MSFT) has to be pleased with the verdict, given it could boost OEM interest in Windows Phone.

Traders don't understand the impact of the verdict. Samsung was hit hard, and as an Android user, I am not looking forward to the "tweaks" that will inevitably result.

Judge Koh may tack on additional damages for jury finding of willful violation of patent. She may also decide to ban sales of Samsung products. Either way, decision will have a chilling effect on Samsung and any "copycats". Despite the disdain by many for MSFT, this decision is likely to boost interest in their upcoming W8 products. So, watch for Judge Koh's follow through, maybe next week. And check out price action next week in MSFT and even NOK as people wake up to the impact of this decision. Currently no positions in companies mentioned. I've taken a stealthy approach to investing in the current environment, for reasons obvious to most of you. Good luck all.

Huge victory for NOK. They have a distinctly different Windows phone backed by patents all ready to go. Potential game changer this.

Yes, the even bigger ramification is that Android itself may be threatened. And yes MSFT and NOK might pop now but not for long as their residual success is not yet a sure thing. The only sure thing now is Apple and fortunately I am already fully invested in it (no diversification, the only stock I own and boy was that a good decision). My prior target was $690 by September, $740 by January etc, but now it is $740 within a few weeks, and $850 by January. Biug jump, and these are my conservative targets, It could challenge $1000 by the time they announce mammoth earnings in january from the Christmas season.

Also, I notricew that all negative articles here about Apple seem to be bogus and not based on reality; including the farce downgrade last week about the iTv (which I dont even count as part of Apple valuation yet, and doesn't even exist yet except a set-top box) and the very unfair criticisms of CEO Cook, who is doing a wonderful job. And now his special skills really come into play, logistics, how to make and deliver 50,000,000 plus units to eager customers without a hitch. That is something Steve Jobs had no idea how to do, which is why he hired and trusted Cook. And Johnny Ives will keep the super cool copy-righted designs coming.

GOOG may have chosen Android's open model precisely so that they could attempt to avoid the direct-damages wrath against Samsung, et al.
