Chip makers face a major obstacle - manufacturing techniques are not yet able to create the ever-smaller patterns needed for the next gen of components. Equipment manufacturer ASML is working on a new method, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, but it's expensive and not ready for mass production. Still, it's the reason why Samsung, TMSC (TSM) and Intel (INTQ) have invested heavily in ASML.

    bring back manufacturing to the USA.

     

    Maybe if the Apple-Samsung trial was held in Austin, initial results might have been different.
