Xilinx (XLNX) is buying PetaLogix, a developer of software for creating embedded Linux hardware. Xilinx plans to bundle PetaLogix's software with its Zynq-7000 programmable system-on-chip (SoC) solution, as the adoption of Linux in embedded consumer electronics, telecom, and industrial/medical hardware continues to grow. Intel bought embedded Linux developer Wind River in '09, while Xilinx rival Altera (ALTR) partners with third-party Linux providers.
