IBM's System Z mainframe line is receiving another refresh. Big Blue boasts its latest mainframe, the zEC12, will offer 50% more processing capacity than its predecessor, aided by its use of a new 5.5GHz. CPU. It'll also feature analytics tech that responds to system messages, and (in a nod to emerging markets) won't need a raised data center floor to be installed. IBM's mainframe sales, which are cyclical and help drive lucrative services deals, fell 17% Y/Y in 1H. (PR) (earlier)
