Just 3 years after launching, Sina's (SINA) Weibo microblogging platform has 368M registered accounts (doubtlessly including some fake/duplicate ones). But (like some other social networks) concerns about monetization persist. Though Weibo's expenses have soared, its Q2 ad sales only totaled $10M, or about 10% of Sina's total Q2 ad revenue. Sina is counting on new services such as Weibo Games and a paid membership tier to improve monetization.
