Google Maps, suddenly facing real competition from OpenStreetMap and Apple's new iOS mapping solution, has added six new ad formats for third-party sites and apps to leverage, and given developers more flexibility to customize ads. The upgrade follow a series of content improvements related to traffic data, satellite and Street View imagery, and 3D maps, among other things. The latest announcement comes on a day when Google (GOOG +1.6%) hit a new 52-week high.
