ExxonMobil (XOM) and Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) reportedly seek bigger stakes in the Kashagan oil field and want Kazakhstan’s government to extend the production-sharing agreement for 20 years before investing more in the $46B project. The two may try to buy out ConocoPhillips' (COP) 8.4% stake in the Caspian Sea field; COP has said it plans to sell $8B-$10B of assets by mid-2013.
