The United Steelworkers union says it's close to a new four-year labor pact with U.S. Steel (X) but that talks with ArcelorMittal (MT) have stalled. MT, which wants to cut wages and benefits for all workers ~36% from an average $77.40/hour, has started preparing its blast furnaces and other facilities for a strike "as a precautionary measure."

MIT professors probably start with $77 an hour.

Why bust your (in explicative) to become an MIT professor?

    $77/hr is over $150,000/year!

These union "workers" are already so incredibly OVER-paid, they have no sense of reality! FIRE them all and give the jobs to NON-union folks who need jobs and have a work ethic!

$77 an hour is a trumped up number by management, it includes everything but the kitchen sink! It includes hourly wages, holiday pay, vacation pay, life insurance, health insurance, sick pay, social security payments, lunchtime piss breaks and anything else they can throw in!!

Working in a steel mill is hot, dirty work, it involves long hours and hard, sweaty, dirty work, I',m guessing you wouldn't last 10 minutes there!!

There are a lot of good hard working steelworkers, like in any business there are a few duds that should be dealt with. The real investor question here is how USS intends to operate and earn a fair return for all of it's stakeholders. They have not been able to do this in the last 2 years and do not appear to have a strategy.
