Amazon (AMZN) is planning to launch a new touchscreen Kindle e-reader featuring a backlit "Paperwhite" e-ink display, The Verge reports. The new Kindle, which should be announced on Sep. 6,  is a response to Barnes & Noble's (BKS) latest Nook Simple Touch, whose GlowLight display tech makes it easier to read in dark environments. IDC has forecast e-reader shipments will drop this year due to tablet competition.

If it is e-ink, it can only be a front-light (like the Nook GlowLight).
A backlight would not shine through e-ink.

If this new Kindle is as good as I think it is, I will finally buy one.

Amazon is going to kick some Barnes & Noble you-know-what in the e-reader market!
