With trading volumes at five-year lows, do you think this market lacks conviction? It doesn't mean you shouldn't be preparing for either scenario, Ben Levisohn suggests; the calm's unlikely to last, which makes options a good tool for hedging.

It's estimated that the exit of bank prop desks has amounted to 800,000,000 shares / day fewer volume .

Change the laws back to encourage prop trading , volume would come back to some degree

People are just sick of getting taken advantage by wall street law breakers and not having any enforcement by the government. Without retail saps, the wall street types are just going to have to cannibalize themselves.

Many credible sources are touting that much of the current low volume is foreign buying. Bloomberg reports that as much as 80% are EU buyers. So there is absolutely no US conviction and comments of US fund window dressing can't be so. This is EU dollars desperate to find a home as EU bonds that are safe pay 0 or the ones that pay high rates are too dangerous. The US market is only game.

Pins and needles with tension in M/E and the chance that US won't change her CEO... Been a great year and now went from 80% cash to 90%.. Why not lock in a wonderful year and see if a major even happens and an all in moment surfaces !........................ Dalatin
