The Labor Day weekend didn't lift the movie industry out of its summer doldrums at the box office, but execs remain optimistic that the industry is still in good shape. Though the Olympics and the Colorado theater shooting both impacted attendance, YTD box office totals are still running ahead of last year's totals and a number of movie franchises have blockbuster sequels lined up. Studios: TWX, DIS, LGF, VIAB, SNE, DWA, CMCSA. Operators: RGC, CNK, MCS, RLD.

With so many studios listed, I am surprised your theater operator tickers are not as extensive. This is the 2nd time in a short while, since I pointed out Reading Int’l’s (RDI) primary business segment (comprising >90% of its revs) as Theater operator, where SA editors missed listing RDI among the population. RDI is the 11th largest exhibitor in the US, 4th largest in Australia, and 3rd largest in New Zealand. I note the CKEC is not listed as well and it is the 4th largest exhibitor (US only) RLD is not an operator of any sort, though it gets royalties from certain 3D-format movies shown. Then again, IMAX get royalties for movies in its format too.
