Amazon (AMZN) news/rumors pour in ahead of its 1:30PM ET event. 1) A TV ad depicts Amazon's "Paperwhite" backlit Kindle e-reader, a ~7" Kindle Fire, and (most intriguingly) a bigger Fire. 2) The Verge reports Amazon might show off its rumored smartphone, but it remains an unfinished product. 3) As speculation continues about its set-top box plans, Peter Kafka reports Amazon offered to buy Roku earlier this year. 4) Verizon will be pre-installing Amazon's apps on most of its Android phones.

Why would anyone care?? They made a dud of a tablet. Sold 75% of it before last holiday and been dying ever since. Nobody wants an Android tablet that can't do anything other than handcuff you to Amazon. Once the present Q numbers come out with Nexus 7 in the race, it will be apparent how irrelevant Amazon is in the tablet world.

And a phone?? Only if it comes tethered to a Segway.

But the phone will have an AMZN (Trade Mark) Button that will allow you to buy anything (plus buying more Amazon shares) at one click. That alone should justify a P/E of 500 at least.

AMZN is firing on all cylinders. Phones, tablets, e-readers, fullfillment centers, web services, media (movie) distribution, etc. Everyday they are selling and providing more and more consumer goods. Their metrics look terrible but it seems investors have confidence.

    I wouldn't short them.

Firing on all cylinders or floundering desperately? Time will tell. :)
