ARM Holdings (ARMH +11.1%) inks a multi-year deal with Microsoft (MSFT +0.7%) to license ARM's architecture. Details are scarce, but analysts say the deal could result in Intel-heavy (INTC) Microsoft opening up Windows 7 to ARM, or that it may indicate Microsoft sees ARM-based devices in its future.

This is huge, both somewhat bearish for Intel and definitely bullish for MS and ARM; my guess is MS is getting worried about how quickly it has fallen behind as the smartphone 'revolution' and google's Android platform have gained a following, with MS virtually invisible in the space.

also interesting as there were rumors for a bit that Apple may have looked to buy ARM...

There is nothing new to this.

Intel builds chips for the industry.
ARM builds chips for the customers.

Intel has tried for many years to compete against ARM, and failed miserably every time.
