I am sure upper management will still get their benefits.

Upper management likely does not have a pension. American pilots and union employees are going to have to realize the pension idea is bankrupt. They should choose a 401k matching plan and their jobs rather than trying to cling to the false promise of a pension.

They won't, of course. Because like "upper management" this would require some give from the senior union members. But the senior folks are safe from job cuts (junior ones go first), so the union "management" will sacrifice jobs for compromise on a pension.
