The Isis mobile payments JV is delaying its service launch again, and isn't explaining why. Isis was formed by AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, who were scared of getting left out of a mobile payments boom as Square, Google, and PayPal staked their claims. But like Google Wallet, Isis' reliance on NFC technology could get in its way, especially now that Apple has disclosed the iPhone 5 doesn't contain an NFC chip. VeriFone (PAY) is handling payment processing for Isis, which initially launches in just 2 cities.
