Best Buy (BBY) says it will reassign 2K loss-prevention employees in the U.S. to its sales force in a Hail Mary effort to increase revenue. The greeters who were previously tasked with matching receipts to items walking out the door will now be used to improve the retailer's engagement with customers on the floor.

Success in a declining America has meant downsizing the job employees are expected to do so anyone available at minimum wage is qualified. This is the main path to those sweet quarterly bonuses for the geniuses at the executive suite in America.

Best Buy is caught in a business where quality employees still make a difference, but they have long been downsizing their employees both in numbers and in pay because of competitive pressures. Problem is, that didn't work for long for them because only knowlegeable and qualified people on the floor can differentiate them from cheap offerings on internet, and this latest stopgap effort is unlikely to stem the tide.

    This won't work.

LP specialists were hired for their 'intimidation potential.' In other words, they were selected to deter people from shoplifting.

I think these folks will scare customers away.

    But that's just me.

Disclosure: Long with shares purchased through the company's ESPP (currently under water, and still under water even with the Schulze offer). Former employee.

This kind of sounds like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic

I used to buy a lot from the local BBY, but they have failed to keep up either in being cmpetitive or in service. You can often do OK if you have one or the other, but losing out of both is a Bad Thing.

Just one recent example - I needed a couple of the new 128GB SDXC memory cards for cameras - BBY was priced at $299 and was not in stock locally - yet several places online were selling the exact same thing for around $130.
