WSJ report warns of risks in many newer MLP offerings, which have offered yields as high as 19% but lack payout stream guarantees and other safeguards typically found in more standard deals. Northern Tier Energy (NTI) and Hi-Crush Partners (HCLP) are cited as recent MLPs that have jumped in price since their IPOs this year; in NTI’s case, it didn’t promise a minimum payout in its MLP offering.
