U.K. retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U claim they've seen a 500% increase in iPhone 5 (AAPL) pre-orders relative to the iPhone 4S, with sales surpassing those of any other phone launch. The phone's bigger display could be a major selling point: Though its U.K. share held up relatively well, Apple lost share (on a Y/Y basis) in Europe in Q2 as consumers increasingly opted for Android phones with giant displays. those europeans are not opting for android's large display - they're opting for android's cheaper pricing

how can $600 excellent compete with $300 "good enough" ?

Somehow the analysts have yet to catch on that Apple doesn't care about market share as much as profits from those sales. Yes, I am long Apple!!

Lack of big displays could be disastrous for apple.

One size does not fit all no matter how good.

It will be fine for 6-9 months but then they have to realise people need a choice.
Bigger is better as long as it's light and slim, the Galaxy s3 is iPhone 5s' only credible competitor.

you missing the point jack :-( I can put any iphone in my pocket and go for a run in the park.. Try to do that with the galaxies!! Now even lighter and bigger screen BUT same size iPhone, it is rocking... Healthy competition is good for the consumers but when companies like Samsung start copying what Apple is producing that is when it starts to stink.. ;-)

Apple is also not 4G LTE compatible, Major issue for many in Europe.

Greater population density in Europe has always made it more cost effective to upgrade the networks in Europe. The USA is behind in network coverage and quality, and so is Apple. When the Lumia is launched in Europe next month, watch and see what the response to that is. I BET IT DOSE WELL!!!!!! even with a slightly smaller screen.

Not true about the 4G LTE compatibility.

MODELS AND PRICES: 16 gigabytes of storage, $199; 32 GB, $299; 64 GB, $399. These prices assume a two-year service agreement.
At each price level, there will be three different models. The differences between them lie in their ability to connect to different "4G LTE" networks around the world. For instance, one model will connect to AT&T's U.S. network and Bell's Canadian one, while another will connect to Sprint's and Verizon's U.S. networks and KDDI's network in Japan.

    Try again........

So which one of those networks you mentioned was the European 4G LTE, none of them 4G (AT &T) is not the same as 4G LTE.

Ask the Feds or Homeland security or The Tampa police department??? why did they have a special network set up to showcase the ability of a 4G LTE network during the RNC 2 weeks ago, and which companies provided a lot of the frame work, errrr NOKIA CISCO etc... NOT APPLE because they are incompatible.

So you try again, or better yet go and learn the difference first.

In two years Verizon, and Sprint's networks will be up to the task of supporting iPhone 5 4g LTE the same applies to some of the European networks too. All the phone are still in the process of builting out their 4g LTE networks, oh but don't tell the public that you are still working on it.

Move evidence of the huge pent up demand, projected 20% earnings growth starting to look way too low.
