Cisco (CSCO) announces the Nexus 3548, a 10-gig Ethernet switch it claims offers superior latency thanks to proprietary technology called Algo Boost (video). The switch is particularly aimed at latency-sensitive financial institutions. Startup Arista Networks, which just happened to announce new switches of its own today, has taken a decent chunk of the low-latency market. Cisco boasts the Nexus 3548 sports a latency of 190nm, better than the 350nm claimed for Arista's gear.

CSCO just keeps telling us how stupid we are not to buy at 10x earnings. Adding more.

Leave a $2B load balancer market and enter a $600M low latency niche. Is that smart?

That's a good point. Though I think it says something about how successful F5 has been at maintaining a dominant position in the load balancer market. Their software ecosystem really makes it tough for Cisco or anyone else to challenge their lead.

CSCO is a great put/call play. Going nowhere anytime soon. Take your premiums and live large.
