Just as IDC's PC forecasts are getting gloomier, its tablet forecasts continue getting rosier: the research firm now expects 117.1M tablets to be shipped this year, up from a June forecast of 107.4M and a March forecast of 106.1M. Moreover, IDC predicts shipments will reach 165.9M next year, narrowing the ratio of PC to tablet shipments to less than 2.5:1. The iPad, perhaps a month away from including a 7.85" model, is expected to account for 60% of 2012 shipments, and Android tablets 35%.
