The world's 4 biggest NAND flash memory suppliers - SanDisk (SNDK), Samsung (SSNLF.PK), Toshiba, and SK Hynix - are reportedly planning to hike prices by 10%-15% by mid-November thanks to surging smartphone demand. Apple (AAPL) is said to be an especially voracious NAND buyer, fully booking SanDisk and Hynix's spare capacity as it shifts orders away from Samsung. SanDisk and Micron (MU) rallied yesterday on hopes of a favorable NAND supply/demand balance. (IDC tablet forecast)
