Market recap: Stocks continued to tread water after disappointing German economic data and differences among European leaders over how to confront the debt crisis sapped investor confidence. Defensive sectors were leaders, while tech stocks lagged; Facebook plunged 9%. Crude oil shed 1% to $91.93, a seven-week low. NYSE decliners topped advancers seven to five.

    Led by Appl? There is weakness across the board based on macro data over the weekend and continued realization that QE^n is not a solution.
