France's highest court upheld a conviction against Total (TOT) over a 1999 spill of ~20K metric tonnes of crude oil off the country's northwest coast. A 2008 ruling gave TOT criminal responsibility for the spill; today the court also ruled TOT, which has paid a €375K fine and nearly €400M for the clean-up, had civil responsibility in the accident.
