GT Advanced Tech (GTAT -6.1%) is downgraded to Hold from Buy and its target price is cut to $6 from $9 at Canaccord, which concludes that the sapphire cover glass opportunity is not a near-term possibility despite recent optimism. The move is Apple-driven and Samsung is heading towards more of a plastic-based OLED approach, the firm says.

Durable phone screens are critical features. Having a screen protected by sapphire is a solid advantage and plastic does not cut it. Maybe they know more than I but my money is on sapphire for the future.

I know 3 folks with shattered I phone covers. I'm also betting that apple turns to sapphire & if apple goes that way the competition is likely to follow.
