French officials are scrambling after reports that ArcelorMittal (MT) plans to close two blast furnaces in France's Lorraine region, once the heart of the nation's steel industry. The steelmaker says it will provide more details on Oct. 1. The two furnaces had been idled for nearly two years. MT -0.9% premarket.

    If they are idled for two years...are they not also closed???? I bet in France you have to pay the emloyeees even though they do not work..

    Perhaps under the Socialists in France, the only way to not pay the workers is to shut down the plant. More telling is that MT sees no reason to continue to operate these furnaces for the long term in this economy.
