H-P (HPQ +0.5%) wins the bidding war for 3Par (PAR +2.2%), as Dell (DELL +1.3%) says it "will not increase its most recent proposal to acquire 3PAR, and that Dell has ended its discussions regarding a potential acquisition. Dell is entitled to receive a $72M break-up fee from 3PAR upon the termination of its merger agreement." (PR)

I think this is a win for Dell. The bidding war made the acquisition of 3PAR overpriced in my mind, even though 3PAR's knowledge of cloud storage is impressive.

Retired and without my portfolio of dividend increasing stocks I could not afford the vast expenses required to take care of my wife of 45yrs who requires 24/7 care and has many expensive medical problems. This proves the point that you never know what will happen and should play the "what if" game.(Warren Buffet learned this lesson at age 10 and it should be taught in school.
