Tom Black, the head of Cisco's (CSCO) software-defined networking (SDN) efforts, has left for rival Arista Networks. Black's departure comes as Cisco tries to address fears that SDN solutions, such as those from VMware's Nicira unit, will wreck its switch business' sales and/or margins over the long run. MKM argued today that Cisco's FY13 and FY14 results won't be meaningfully affected by SDN deployments, but that's not the timeframe most are worried about. (also)
