Is a railroad recovery in the offing? Bernstein upgrades a pair of railroad names, taking both CSX (CSX) and Norfolk Southern (NSC) to Market Perform from Underperform. The firm's action hits with news out that the U.S. freight rail industry will invest $23B using private money for infrastructure upgrades this year.

I have "played" the stock market, so to speak, for at least 30 years, with a fair amount of success and fun. It is no longer fun and I cannot say I am having much success. Just trying to "hold on" and to figure out what to do next.

I look at the market as a pricing vehicle. When I go to buy a company (not the stock), and I decide how much should I pay for the firm. Mr Market tells me what the price is. IF the price is too high then I wait and/or reevaluate my pricing thoughts. Periodically I double check with Mr Market and sometimes there's a offer I cannot refuse and I sell knowing I can always buy more at a later date.
Recent purchases were CSX and WHR. This first was because I wanted to own a railroad - got lucky it split shortly after purchase. The second I needed a consumer staple and a way to play the housing recovery. I saw WHR about 40% under what I was willing to pay for the company. It turned out to be the best performer in the S&P 500. Sometimes I roll the dice on a hunch, like RELV and get burned, but not more than I can stand to lose.
