Buyout firm Carlyle Group (CG) is getting into the commodities game, purchasing 55% of hedge fund manager Vermillion, as the firm expands beyond private equity. Vermillion manages ~$2.2B and invests in a wide variety of commodities, from energy and metals to agricultural staples and soft commodities, like coffee and cocoa.
