Alcatel-Lucent (ALU -2.8%) is now a Convinction Sell at Goldman. The firm, which has lowered its target to a mere $0.60, is worried about Alcatel's future liquidity - the telecom equipment vendor is still hemorrhaging cash, and will see billions in debt mature in the coming years. UBS downgraded Alcatel on Monday.

If Europe survives the Sovereign Debt Crisis, ALU will survive. I'm going to try to muddle through, but can't recommend the same to anyone.

There was not much of a move on the downgrade announcements Monday and today. Especially with a price target of .60 for Goldman.

I believe that ALU headquarters (Corp) needs to move back to the USA. The whole Europe financial situation is even worse than the USA
(hard to believe). Perhaps located in a State where the Business environment is "Friendly" such as Texas, definetly not California.
Also need to change out the top management.

Strangely enough (but not really), Goldman's public calls have served as consistent contrarian indicators. Keep an eye on this one.

I thought the players in this was interesting. Especially the lead underwriters.

    See?:

4:00 PM After trading near breakeven much of the day, Alcatel Lucent (ALU +7.9%) shot higher in afternoon trading, rising all the way to $1. There hasn't been any news to spark the move, though the struggling telecom equipment vendor could benefit from a Sprint/SoftBank deal if it boosts Sprint's 4G LTE capex - Alcatel is one of the suppliers for Sprint's LTE buildout.
