Akamai (NASDAQ:AKAM) launches Aqua Ion, a content delivery service that optimizes content based on device and application type, as well as network conditions. The service, which is the product of Akamai's February acquisition of Blaze Technology, demonstrates Akamai's efforts to stand out from rivals such as Limelight and Level 3 by offering differentiated services for content that (unlike commoditized media delivery services) requires low latency. The efforts have been paying off.
