Lured by returns near 10%, Google (GOOG), Kroger (KR) and Waste Management (WM) are among the growing number of non-financial firms investing in low-income rental housing. For Google and the others, it's not an issue of "don't be evil" - the investments offset taxable income that is rising and provide an alternative to record-low bond yields.
