The iPad Mini (AAPL) will be unveiled at an Oct. 23 event, claims AllThingsD's John Paczkowski, who previously reported an October launch would happen. A rumor about press invitations arriving on Oct. 10 didn't pan out. Manufacturing yield issues have reportedly delayed the Mini's release.

People who want a smaller iPad will buy it. I spoke to my brother just this morning, and he said he will consider getting one for his business as a personal trainer. A regular iPad is too big for him to lug around, but the smaller one may be just right.

It will help to fill a niche that they currently don't fill.

iPad mini will become the new Siri-activated universal remote for tv.

Everybody's going to want two or three of them.

On a global scale I agree they will do well, but I believe that the US is Apple's largest market right now isn't it? So a less than expected boon there would be noticeable we'll have to see.

If you have an iPad and the iPad mini does nothing more than those why would you want it?

Could you explain a situation where your iPad mini would be more advantageous then the iPad?

Yes, the iPad mini is more portable (be great if it would fit in a thigh pocket in cargo pants). As a pilot I use the iPad for flying (and it is a great tool), but some aircraft have more limited space and the mini would be perfect (iPhone can be used, but just a little too small when multitasking). I have a iPad 3 but would probably add an iPad mini if the capability is good. One thing I think is a mistake, if true, is the rumor that the mini won't have 4G capability. I would rather have a wifi full size and a 4G mini.

My wife carries her Kindle Fire in her purse, the iPad is too big to do this.
I want an iPad mini because I don't want to spend $600 on a device that is just a toy and I'd use probably a couple hours a week.
Got kids? iPad mini is smaller and easier for them to use (and will be cheaper!). 2 ipad mini's > 1 ipad.

Portability. The mini will fit in a jacket pocket, the full size iPad does not. There are a lot of times dealing with a bag is awkward while having more screen real estate than an iPhone would be very welcome.

Ditto on the 4G, with a portable device have the features for travel (like 4G). At home and work I've WiFi, that's where the full size is superior anyway since it doesn't have to be hauled around streets and such.

rumor has it that the ipad mini may be the solution that jobs spoke of when discussing apple's interests in the tv market with his biographer.

a conveniently small universal remote that operates via siri voice commands.

yet another revolutionary advance provided to us by apple.

It will fit easily in my pocketbook, so I can take it EVERYWHERE. If it has it, I will get 64GB HD, wifi + 3G/4G....then my "new" iPad will become an additional computer/tv in my house. I have one computer in downstairs office and I find myself using the iPad upstairs as a second computer, also as a tv, to carry anywhere in the house with my cable app. So...yes. I will buy one and KEEP my iPad too. I never realized how much I would use my iPad. I have Pages, so now I really didn't need MW for Office on my iPad. I love Pages...touch screen for iPad, saves docs in Cloud.

Fits in pockets, pocketbook. My iPad (new) will become, as it is now, second tv in house, also second computer, since my iMac is downstairs in office. Sometimes I do everything upstairs from my iPad before going downstairs later to use iMac. Can airprint, watch tv anywhere in house, with all channels on my cable service, use internet, mail. I would never give it up and before I bought it, I thought I would only use it to trade stocks when I was out. Since it is a little bit big for pocketbook, I will get the best mini they make!

I have the new iPad (3) and would enjoy a mini version. My iPad is wonderful but it only fits the largest handbags and I'd appreciate (like all Apple users) having a seamless way to carry all my information in a smaller bag sometimes. Besides, I always appreciate beautiful things so expect this to be exquisite. This thing will all my Apple products (and I'm late in coming aboard) is that I get far more bang for the buck. They last longer, are less trouble, the support is far far better than any other tech support (they teach, train & answer questions in my own language efficiently and intelligently). Enough said.

I also see this going over well with educational groups. The iPad has already proven itself there, and by making a more affordable version would certainly allow budgets to get more iPads into more classrooms.

I approach this with cautious optimism, but sitting by and watching Samsung, Amazon and Barnes&Noble occupy the smaller tablet slice makes me wonder what when Apple would address it.

Great observation nungster, educational groups could be won over with a lower price to purchase (and assuming lower price to replace broken ones). One of the local middle schools where I used to live gave out mac books to their kids andthe biggest complaint from staff, board of ed is it was expensive to fix the 100's a year that would be broken by irresponsible kids... Tablets in general somewhat solve this issue. Plus the cost of digital books vs physical texts probably helps offset the costs of tablets in school. Wish they had them when I was in school

am a business owner...see others using ipad...I have held off on adopting until I can see what this new mini can do for me vs. the bulkier bigger ipad...IT WILL DO VERY WELL!!! better than the ipad, I believe...as long as they get it right...

I pad mini is going to be such a big buy walmart doubled on its orders and canceled kindle fire. I was a seller on apple but after hearing this i just bought 50 shares of apple back. For walmart to do that the number 1 retailer in the world this is going to sale like crazy. Kindle is finished. Thats just walmart who knos how other companies will order it. Its not just going to destroy the other mini tablets its going to obleterate them. Apple just continues to dominate technology. Its unbelievable how they do it.

I am thinking that the size will be more convenient to carry - Historically, electronics morph into smaller versions of themselves and the larger/older ones are put out to pasture.

I personally don't own an iPad nor want one, simply because it doesn't have a keyboard. My kids and wife have one, so yes; I have experienced them.

As a result, I'm seriously considering going to a 13" MacBook Air, but I'm having a hard time with the price differential. And yes I've seen iPad keyboards as in integral part of a larger case, but they don't do it for me either.

Of course if AAPL were to stop plunging, my decision to buy an Airbook would be easier. That's it - I resolve to purchase an Air, when a single share can buy it for me.

I have the 13 Airbook. It is the best computer I have ever used.

I've used to evaluate computers for teaching labs and had panasonic's, hp's, dell's, sharp, sony, compaq, IBM, toshiba.
Both laptop and desktops. These were all top of the line and the fastest of their day. Actually all were good machines.

But none hold a candle to the Airbook. Waiting for a touch screen and retina display. That would be the only reason to change!

And yes I will buy a iPad mini. Have the iPad 1... It's great EXCEPT cannot upgrade to iOS6. So iPad mini is it!

In my humble opinion...It's imperative the new iPad mini have an app or feature that separates itself from it's competitors other than the Apple brand name. My guess is it will and that feature / app will be related to iTV or, in other words, a remote making all other remotes obsolete.

According to the Barclays analyst who covers AAPL, the Ipad Mini will be AAPL's biggest revenue earner, period. My understanding from the interview/press relase that analyst gave was that the Ipad Mini, in addition functioning as a mini Ipad, will have an app that ill enable the mini Ipad to serve as a universal remote control with it is coupled with an Apple TV device.
Now if my understanding is correct, this will be an awesome product at a great pricepoint. Anyway, let us wait for Oct 23, and hear what Apple say. I am very bullish at this point.

Your the 2nd person who has stated the Universal remote thing like it isn't already possible with the current iPads...

A friend of mine can control his TV heating and air Conditioning and his damn blinds in the living room with his iPad... I think he does it via an app so it being built into the iPad will be nice but not in anyway 'new'

That's actually a pretty brilliant idea if you live in an area where wifi is generally available. With Facetime/skype who needs at*t or VZ

If I lived in a city or in a non country state (lots of cows here in NE TN) then I would def consider that as well, an iPad mini with wifi sounds like a great alternative to a phone.

My take is that the mini will greatly exceed expectations. I think the only problem will be meeting demand for some time. I have a new iPad but I'd get a mini or two for remotes or other semi-dedicated functions or for portable use. There are times when I am in a waiting room or waiting to get seated and my iphone is a bit small and the ipad is too big to lug around all the time (not that I would lug the mini around all the time either but I might keep one in my car). As a reader it will be easier to hold in your hand like a kindle. It would be interesting if they built in some unique hardware feature like infrared/RF to allow for a seamless universal remote.

Will definitely get the iPad mini.
I don't see any connection between the Apple stock price and the company. The stock market is manipulated; but in the long term, quality always wins.
Apple products have never been rushed to market to satisfy stockholders' desire to raise quarterly earnings, and the temporary price of the stock.
If you don't believe this you don't deserve to be a stockholder of one of the most outstanding companies in history.
