Despite picking up a $17B tab to allow consumers to return consumer products purchased online, a free-shipping policy leads to riches for retailers, according to an industry study. Companies that adopted a free-return shipping policy saw average spending per customer rise by around $620 over two years. While it's a nice development for online sellers, UPS and FedEx FDX don't mind the trend one little bit either.
